Procedures: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I.Warm up ( 5 minutes ) - Greeting and checking students’ attendance. Give the Game: Guessing the kinds of music. Ask Ss work individually, listen to the songs and guess the kinds of music. Give feedback. Introduce the reading. To understand more about different types of music, today we are learning unit 12. II.Pre-reading ( 10 minutes ) Introduce general content of the reading passage. Practice designed warming-up activities in the textbook. Ask Ss some questions. How many kind of music that you’ve heard? -Lead to task :How can you describe about each kind of music? Ask Ss to work in pairs and match each of the descriptions to a type of music. Feedback and give suggested answers. Make use of pictures (if any) to present new vocabulary. funeral (n) = ceremony for sb who has died: đám tang. communicate (v) : giao tiếp solemn (a) = humorless, formal – solemnity (n):trang trọng, trang nghiêm. You are going to read a passage about different types of music and the role of music. You read them and do the following tasks. Give clear instructions for the reading tasks. Task 1 : Gap-filling Ask Ss to read the passage individually in silence and do task 1. Encourage Ss to guess the meaning of the words in the context. Tell Ss to compare their answers with a friend. Call on some Ss to read the answers aloud in front of the class. Give feedback and corrections. Task 2 – Answering questions Give the Game: Lucky number Divide class into 2 group and give the rules. Rule: There are 6 number from 1 to 6. You choose which number you like. If it is a question,you have give out the answer. Your answer is true,you will get a point. If it is a lucky number, you don’t have to give out the answer, you get 1 point and choose another number. Question: 1.What are two things that make humans different from other animals? 2.Why is music a powerful means of communication? 3.How can music set the tone for events and special occasions? 4.How can music entertain? 5.Why has music always been a big business? Check and then congratulates the winner. IV.After you read(8 minutes) Ask Ss to work in pairs and answer the questions in the book. Tell Ss to look back to the passage to get the ideas for the answers Go around the class and provide help when necessary. Call on some Ss to give the answers in front of the class. Give suggested answers. Relate to Ss’ own experience. Extend the topic to oral or written presentations. V.Homework (2 minutes) - Write a paragraph( about 60 words) about the roles of music. - Prepare for part B (Speaking) - Greeting and informing teacher of the students’ attendance. Work individually.
