I. OBJECTIVES: 
1. Educational aim:	 Helps Ss to develop such listening micro-skills as intensive listening specific information and taking notes while listening 
 2. Knowledge:
a. General knowledge: - Sts know some information about Pelé, the most famous footballer in the world.
b. Language:	- Vocabulary on football.
	- The simple past tense.
 3. Skills: 	- Listening: Listen and fill in the table, and answer the questions.	
	- Speaking: Talk about important events in Pele's life.
II. ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
	- Some sts do not like football and have not heard the name of Pele.
III. TEACHING AIDS:
	- Tape, cassette player, textbook, chalk, board.

WARM – UP: 7’
"What do you know about them?" 
"Which one do you like best? Why?"
Answers:
(photo 1: Pele; photo 2: Maradona; photo 3: Zidane; photo 4: Barthez; photo 5: Beckham).
- Tets Ss to look at the 4 photos on page 147 of the textbook and name each player in the photos.
- Asks Ss the question :

Introduces the topic: You are going to listen about the World's most famous footballer, Pelé. 
Pelé was a goal-scorer and a national hero of Brazil. He was very good at kicking and won many championships. After his, retirement he became the ambassador for football to promote friendship and spirit of sport among the world's nations etc.
* Some new words:
- as a/ an...... : When he/ she was a/an....
- kick (v):( miming)
-control(v): to make people/ things do what you want.
- participate in (v): take part in 
- ambassador(n) đại sứ
- promote(v):to help the progress of st. 
- Introduce some new words
- Read the words and ask sts to repeat.
- Ask sts to read the words in pairs.
- Ask some sts to read the words again.

Individual work, pairs work & whole class
- Ss should not try to write down all the details in full sentences but they should write down only most important and relevant details in note forms. 
- Checks the answers with the whole class 
- Elicits information about Pele. T should not correct or give any comments at this phase and just accept all Ss' answers.
- Should encourage Ss to read· through all the questions before listening and predict the answers
- Plays the tape (or reads) again for Ss to listen and answer the questions.
- Checks with the whole class. T should play the tape again and pause at difficult points if many Ss cannot complete the task

Pele was born in 1940 in Brazil. Pele was famous for his powerful kicking and cntrolling the ball. He joined a Brazilian football club in 1959 and in 1962 he left his team to its first world club chapionship. By 1974, Pele had scored 1,200 goals and became a Brazilian national hero. He retired in 1977. Later he became the ambassador to the sport, working to promote peace and understanding through friendshly sport activities. 
- Have Ss talk about the milestones in Pele’s life.
