Warm-up(10’) - ask sts to close their textbooks - let sts play the game “ The mini World Cup”- sts divide in 4 groups, and choose name of football team for each group( Brazil, England, Italy, or Spain). - let sts draw lots to find 2 teams which will play together. -hang 2 tables on the board 1. where was this World Cup held? . 2. when was this World Cup held? 3. which team was the champion? .. - let 2 the first teams watch some pictures and write answers on the table in 3 minutes ( 2002 World Cup was held in Japan and South Korea; Brazil was the champion) - let next teams play like that, but about 2006 World Cup in Germany, and winner-Italy - 2 teams winning will play in the final match (about 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and the champion-Spain)in 1 minute ( winner will be given a Cup and present) - present new lesson II. Pre- speaking:(12’) 1. Vocabulary:( 2’) -instruct sts some words/ phrases: + Host country = host nation Nước chủ nhà. + Runner – Up : Á quân, người về thứ 2. + draw(v, n) (a score of 1-1) +defeat sb= beat sb: đánh bại ai đó - help sts pronounce the words and phrases. 2. Reading the score:( 3’) - explain the ways to read the score + 4 – 2. (four to two) + 2-0 (two to nil) + 1-1(1 all/ 1 draw) - ask sts to listen and repeat - ask sts to speak the scores in the table in page 146 - listen and correct their mistakes. 3. task 1: Look at the pictures( P 145)(7’) - let sts watch 4 pictures of 4 teams - ask sts what the football teams are ( England, France, Italy, Germany ) - correct sts’ answers - ask sts what nicknames of these teams are ( England: “tuyển Tam sư” France : “Những chú gà trống Goloa” Italy: “áo thiên thanh” Germany: “Cổ xe Tăng” ) - give some information about these teams + England became the champion for the first time and also the only time until now in the 1966 World Cup. + France became the champion for the first time and also the only time until now in the 1998 World Cup. + Italy is the champion in the 2006 World Cup and it is the fourth time this team won in the World Cup. + Germany has won the World Cup three times (1954, 1974, 1990) III. While -speaking:(12’) Task 2: Look at the table below. Ask and answer questions.(P 145, P 146) - show the example on the board - ask 2 sts to speak - ask sts to write the example in their notebooks Example: A: Where was the first World Cup held? B: It was held in Uruguay . A: Which team played in the final match? B: Uruguay and Argentina. A: Which team became the champion? B: Uruguay. A: What was the score of the match? B: 4 – 2. (four to two) - ask sts to close the textbook - ask sts to work in pairs, ask and answer to fill information in the hand-out - deliver hand-out - ask 2 pairs to speak in front of the class - listen and correct sts’ mistakes. Post-speaking:( 10’) Task 3: Take turns to talk about the World Cup winners, using the information in the table in task 2 (P 147) - read and explain the example of the task 3 in the textbook. Example: The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930. The final match was between Uruguay and Argentina. Uruguay defeated Argentina by 4 to 2 - write the example on the board - ask sts to write the example in their notebook. - ask 1 st to read the example - ask sts to work in group of 4 , discuss and talk about winners in the fifth, ninth, and seventeenth World Cup - ask some sts to talk their discussion - listens and corrects their mistake. + The fifth World Cup was held in Switzerland in 1945. The final match was between West Germany and Hungary. West Germany defeated Hungary by 3 to 2. + The ninth World Cup was held in Mexico in 1970. the final match was between Brazil and Italy. Brazil defeated Italy by 4 to 1. + The seventeenth World Cup was held in South Korea & Japan in 2002. The final match was between Brazil and Germany. Brazil defeated Germany by 2 to 0. - work in groups and play the game - give meaning - repeat - listen and repeat - read the scores - watch pictures and answers T’s questions - speak - write the example in notebooks - work in pairs and fill information in the hand-out - read the example -write example in their notebooks - work in groups and discuss IV.
