- Show the chart in the textbook
- Introduce: The chart presents some information about visistors arrivals in Vietnam from the USA, France and Australia in 2002. Study the chart and then answers the questions that follow.

- Elicit the outline of the description of the chart
- There are 3 parts:
* Introduction: time, location, what is 
 described

III. While – Writing (12mn)
Describing a chart
- Base on the answwers to the questions in task 1 and the out line above, write a description of the chart provided in task 1.

 * Chúng ta thêm –er vào các tính từ và trạng từ ngắn (1 vần) 
 Cheap – cheaper
 Hard – harder, 
 large – larger (adj kÕt thóc b»ng E c©m th× chØ thªm R)
 Thin – thinner (kÕt thóc b»ng 1 phô ©m, tr­íc nã lµ mét nguyªn ©m th× gÊp ®«i phô ©m cuèi sau ®ã thªm ER)
- This jacket is too small. I need a larger size. 
- Ann works harder than most of her friends. 
 * Chúng ta cũng thêm –er vào một số tính từ hai vần, đặc biệt là các tính từ tận cùng bằng –y. 
Thí dụ: 
 Lucky/luckier; funny/funnier; easy/easier; pretty/prettier; quiet/quitter; 
 Clever/cleverer; narrow/narrower; simple/simpler. 
- The examination was easier than we expected. 
- It’s too noisy here. Can we go somewhere quieter?

 * Chúng ta dùng more (không dùng “-er”) đối với các tính từ dài 
(tính từ hai vần trở lên ngoài từ các tính từ hai vẫn đã được liệt kê ở phần b) 
 more modern, more serious, more expensive, more comfortable. 
- Expensive hotels are usually more comfortable than cheaper ones. 
- His illness was more serious than we at first thought. 
 * Chúng ta cũng dùng more cho các trạng từ tạn cùng bằng –ly: 
 more slowly, more seriously, more quietly, more carefully 
- Could you speak more slowly, please?
S1 + V + more + Adj/adv/noun + than + S2 + V
 * Chúng ta cũng nói more often (thường xuyên hơn): 
- I don’t play tennis much now. I used to play more often. 
 * Nhưng chúng ta lại nói earlier (không nói “more early”): 
- You are always tired in the mornings. You should go to bed earlier. 
3. Một số tính từ và trạng từ có hình thức so sánh bậc hơn bất qui tắc (irregular comparative): 
 + Good / well - Better 
- Let me ask him. I know him better than you do. 
- The garden looks better since you tidied it up. 
 + Bad / badly - Worse 
- “Is your headache better?” “no, it’s worse 
- The situation was much worse than we expected. 
 + Far – Further/ Farther 
- I’m very tired. I can’t walk much further (or  much farther) 
 Furher (không phải “farther”) cũng có nghĩa là “hơn, thêm, thêm nữa”: 
- Let me know immediately if you hear any further news. (any more news) 
* Hãy lưu ý đến hai từ so sánh more và less 
- I smoke more than I used to 
- We’ve got less time than I thought. 
 + Old – Older/ elder 
- Tom looks older than he really is. 
Chúng ta dùng elder khi chúng ta nói về các thành viên trong gia đình. 
Chúng ta nói: (my) elder brother (anh trai) / sister (chị gái)/ daughter (con gái lớn) 
- My elder brother is a pilot. 
 (Chúng ta chỉ dùng elder trước danh từ) 
- My brother is older than me. (không nói “elder than me”) 
IV . The Superlatives
1. Short adj/ adv
 Chúng ta thêm "est" để thành lập hình thức cao nhất của tính từ và trạng từ. 
 Long – the longest; 
 Hot – the hottest; 
 Big – the biggest
 Nice – the nicer
 Large – the larger
 Easy – the easiest
 Happy – the happiest 
 Clever- the cleverest; narrow-the narrowest; simple- the simplest.
 bất quy tắc:
 Good/ well – the best
 Bad/ badly – the worst
 Old – the oldest/ eldest
 Far – the farthest/ furthest
 Many/ much – the most
 Little – the least
 Ex: I am the oldest boy in the class.	
 	 Nam is the youngest student in my class.

 Chúng ta thêm "most" để thành lập hình thức cao nhất của tính từ và trạng từ dài (hai vần trở lên).
